However, these three printing methods are not interchangeable. Digital printing is usually preferred for short runs and multiple SKUs, flexographic printing is widely used for medium- to high-volume label production, while screen printing is more suitable for applications requiring heavy ink coverage, opaque white or special visual effects.
For transparent shrink sleeve film, additional factors such as shrinkage, heat resistance and artwork distortion must also be considered.
Transparent films such as PET, PETG and other plastic label substrates have smooth, non-porous surfaces. Unlike paper, they do not absorb ink.
Good print performance therefore depends mainly on:

However, screen printing is generally less common than flexographic or digital printing for high-speed roll-to-roll shrink sleeve production.
Its main advantages are different.
Screen printing can provide:

There is therefore no single "best" printing method for every transparent label project.
The correct method depends on production volume, graphic design, ink requirements and the final packaging application.
One issue that is unique to transparent labels is that standard process inks are not completely opaque.
If CMYK colors are printed directly onto clear film, the color of the bottle or product behind the label can influence the appearance of the printed graphics.
White ink is therefore often printed behind selected graphics to create an opaque background.
This provides:
● More accurate colors
● Higher color density
● Better readability
● Stronger contrast
● Selective transparent windows
Areas without white ink can remain transparent, allowing consumers to see the container or product inside.
For reverse-printed transparent films, the colored artwork is normally viewed through the clear film, while white ink can be printed behind the colors to improve opacity.
Transparent shrink sleeve film is often reverse printed.
Instead of placing the ink on the outer surface, the artwork is printed on the inside of the film and viewed through the transparent material.
This structure offers two important benefits.
First, the film itself helps protect the printed graphics against rubbing and handling.
Second, the smooth outer film surface provides a high-gloss appearance.
For shrink sleeves, the artwork also needs to compensate for the way the film shrinks around curved shoulders, narrow necks and other complex container shapes.
This means printability alone is not enough. The film's shrink behavior also needs to match the container design and shrink tunnel.

For shrink sleeve projects, it is especially important to confirm TD and MD shrinkage because the film must maintain print quality during both printing and heat shrinking.
A printing test is recommended when introducing a new film, ink system or printing machine.
Choose digital printing when you need short runs, frequent artwork changes or variable information.
Choose flexographic printing when you need efficient medium- or high-volume production.
Choose screen printing when the design requires high-opacity inks, thick ink deposits or special decorative effects.
